On July 10th, Bright Prospect hosted the Summer Academy Film Festival at the Fox Theater in downtown Pomona, with over 200 sophomores and juniors in attendance. In order to foster more social understanding of previous time periods, two films were featured: The Day the Earth Stood Still, a Cold-War era film developed in 1951 about aliens that visit Earth and Hairspray, a musical set in 1962 that illustrates the segregation between black and white Americans and the efforts to eliminate the segregation. Students watched these classic films while sitting on blankets, munching on popcorn, and being surrounded by what will soon be known to them as their Bright Prospect family.
