Ericka was always interested in going into film and television, but what are the chances for a first-generation-to-college student without connections to the industry?  With Bright Prospect’s college counseling and mentoring, Ericka was accepted at Barnard College in New York, where she took advantage of being in the city by doing internships at various media companies, and getting involved in the growing film production community at Columbia University.  One highlight of being part of the action was when Ericka, a devoted Beatles fan, got to meet Paul McCartney when backstage at a show. Although she knew her goals, it was difficult to hone in on a clear path to success. This, coupled with being away from her family, made it difficult to stay in New York. Ericka took some time off to be with her family and reconnect with her interests. Bright Prospect was a supportive community to Ericka throughout this challenging period.  After a year, Ericka returned to Barnard feeling much stronger and prepared to dive back into her major.  For her senior project, Ericka produced and directed her own film, “Sticky Situation.”  She is now working in the industry she loves as a Production Coordinator/Executive Assistant for ITV Studios in New York City.
