Nearly 200 of Bright Prospect’s high school and college graduates attended the annual Graduation Picnic held on Sunday, June 30th at Pomona’s Ganesha Park. This was a great opportunity for Bright Prospect graduates to reunite with friends and celebrate their success with family. Last year there were 148 high school graduates and 32 college graduates and this year, we honored 219 graduates, 38 college graduates and 6 graduates of advanced degrees.

Three of this year’s college graduates – Nancy Haro (Swarthmore), Dalia Garcia (Cal Poly), Zina Kinslow (Bowdoin).

For the second year in a row, Cardenas provided the food and presented Bright Prospect with the second half of a 2-year grant, a check for $25,000.

During the event, School Board Member Jason Rothman and his father the Mayor of Pomona Elliott Rothman dropped by to congratulate the graduates and wish them well. Also, Founder and Board President Eric Garen gave a moving speech about how proud he was about all these students and reassured them that Bright Prospect would always be there for them through college and after college with the Bright Prospect Alumni Network. Executive Director, Stephanie Campbell called up Adriana Sanchez (Chino High School 2005, UC Riverside 2008) to the stage to announce that she had recently graduated from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico’s School of Optometry.

Lots of games were played including face painting and piñata for the little ones. Although the older kids did end up participating as well, many of them painting the names and mascots of their colleges on their cheeks. There was also an egg race, a 3-legged race and a few water-balloon fights, keeping the fun going for 5 hours.

We look forward to next year’s festivities with the Class of 2014!
