Bright Prospect held the 8th annual Summer Academy – Session 1 at the Pomona College on July 22-26. Nearly 150 high school sophomores from the Chaffey Joint Unified School District attended the event. During the Summer Academy, students participated in carefully designed workshops and activities.

On Monday evening, a parent meeting was held in the Seaver North Auditorium at Pomona College. Bright Prospect presented to the parents and informed them about the program, the Summer Academy, student expectations, parent involvement throughout the year and the staff’s commitment to their child’s success.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, students went through a series of workshops that discussed the value of a college education, demystifying the costs of college and finding their college home and finally mapping their way to college graduation day.

On Thursday, students visited the Norton Simon Museum followed by a concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Most students had never been to a museum and were in complete awe when they saw the beauty within.

The Summer Academy ended on Friday with the Young Men’s and Women’s Voices where students, interns and staff shared their life stories and bonded over their feelings and experiences. After this event, everyone headed over to Harvey Mudd’s Dinning Hall for the all-you-can-eat buffet, followed by one-on-one counseling with staff to go over a 4-year plan and the grand finale…. a motivational speech from long-time donor, producer, author and NCAA champion Andy Hill!
